GSK has announced plans to relocate its UK research and development (R&D) operations from Stevenage to a new flagship research centre on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
The new facility will become home to GSK’s UK R&D operations and more than 1,000 scientists. The move forms part of a wider £400 million investment programme to accelerate research and medicine development.
As part of the changes, GSK will phase the relocation of employees from Stevenage to Cambridge by 2029. It will also invest in the upgrade of its existing R&D laboratories in Ware, creating an integrated capability for drug development and commercial manufacturing within Hertfordshire.
GSK states the investment will strengthen links with academic, clinical and industry partners, while supporting its future pipeline of medicines in areas including oncology, vaccines, respiratory disease and HIV.
