Digital Exclusion Risk Index (DERI)

Mapping Digital Exclusion

To help identify where people may face barriers to getting online, the Digital Exclusion Risk Index (DERI) highlights communities in Hertfordshire that could be at greater risk of digital exclusion.

The Index uses a range of data to build an evidence-based picture of where digital exclusion may be more common, including:

  • Digital skills and confidence: showing where people may need support to get online and use digital services safely and confidently.
  • Broadband affordability: identifying areas where the cost of internet access may make it harder for people to get connected.
  • Broadband infrastructure: assessing the availability and quality of internet connectivity in different locations.
  • Demographic factors: considering characteristics that can make people more likely to experience digital exclusion.

By bringing this information together, the Index helps organisations and local partners understand which communities may need extra support, so they can target resources and services where they are needed most.
